Top 5 Best Buys for Breastfeeding Moms

Top Buys for Breastfeeding Moms

No matter if you breastfeed for 1 week or 1 year +, there are something that you can purchase before baby gets here so that you are prepared for almost anything your breastfeeding journey throws at you.

On my second breastfeeding journey, which is going on 15 months now, I had a good idea of what I wanted this time around. With my son, who also was breastfed for 15 long months, I made some rookie mistakes that I made sure would not happen this time around.

  • Electric Double Pump.
  • I don't care who you are this is the single most important thing that you need if you choose breastmilk over formula. Even if you plan on not pumping there will be some point at which you will need to, like it or not. What kind of pump is up to you, but make sure you do your research to find one that will be suit your needs. Also, calling your insurance to find out if they cover the cost of one is a great way to save some money!
    • Milk Storage Bags
This goes hand in hand with the pump. For everything you pump, you will need somewhere to store it. Storage bags are a great alternative to freezing baby bottles. Its is not only more cost effective, its great for saving space. My go to is always Lansinoh. They are a great price and typically have boxes of up to 100 bags. Storing what you pump allows your baby to get breastmilk even when your not around, so you don't need a +1 on your date with your partner.

  • Nursing Cover
  • This is not a requirement but its always nice to have. Some women feel much more comfortable using one while on outings and such. There are a ton of great brands for this. Also, your baby's swaddle blanket would work perfectly. I would always pack 2 in my diaper bag for this reason.

    • Boppy Pillow

This is another one of those nice to have but not always needed items. In the early squishy days these can be helpful as your are getting the hang of nursing and what is comfortable for you, but as baby grows it becomes more of a tummy time tool for you.

    • Back up parts

This can be anything from pump parts to bottle parts. Having extras of all the pieces that it takes to make breastfeeding easier is definitely something worth investing in. You will never know how much you rely on the tubing, valves, flanges, and extra bottles until you need it!

Making sure that you have the basic musts and little extras before you begin you journey will help to you achieve the goal you had in mind by making your journey that much less stressful. Remember too that breastfeeding is a natural thing that your body does but it does not come naturally to everyone and takes practice and patience from both you and baby.
